SPP GROUP

About Us

SPP is an IIT Kharagpur-based research group in the Materials Science Centre lead by Dr. Shibayan Roy since 2016. The group tries to correlate the mechanical behavior with the microstructures in the different systems (Metal-based alloys, Composites, and Glass-ceramics). The main purpose of the SPP group is to interrelate and find the link between the three main stems, i.e., Structure, Property, and Processing in various systems. The group is very diverse and has no barriers in terms of background. It includes Physicists, Metallurgists, Ceramists, Nano-technologists, and Mechanical people and is open to many more such minds who are very passionate and enthusiasts for research and can dive in and explore the limitless extremities.

Group Updates

Roja has started SEM and XRD training.
Roja, Arjun and Saumya are now independent UTM users.
Souvik gave his PhD synopsis on July 28th 2022.
Samarendra has published a book chapter titled "New-Age Al-Cu-Mn-Zr (ACMZ) Alloy for high temperature-High Strength Applications: A Review"
Souvik published a paper titled "Novel insights on the near atomic scale spatial distributions of substitutional alloying and interstitial impurity elements in Ti-6Al-4V alloy"
Saumya has got independent usership of XRD
Ashoktaru has been granted an operator-ship of departmental FESEM.
Souvik published a paper titled "Site-dependent microstructure, porosity and mechanical properties of LENSTM processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy", in Materials Science and Engineering A.
Souvik published a paper titled "Statistical modeling of microstructure evolution in a Ti-6Al-4V alloy during isothermal compression" in Acta Materialia.
Faizal has recently secured 3rd prize for the group project titled "Write an article to Wikipedia on the use of glass in the human body" at the 2nd ICG-CGCRI Tutorial 2021.
